This marvelous and rare plant produces a compact inflorescence that grows to 40 cm tall and holds up to 50 long-stalked, dark pink, lily-like flowers radiating in all directions from a short-thick stem. The flowers appear in autumn, just before the thick, broad, tongue-shaped leaves that form a rosette adpressed to the ground. Brunsvigia gregaria grows in grasslands in summer rainfall areas of South Africas Eastern Cape. It adapts well to cultivation in as wide range of warm temperate climates.
