This member of the Iridaceae was given this name by Georgi Ivanovich Rodionenko in 1961. It from Asia Minor: Anatolia, Iran, Iraq, Turkey, the Republic of Georgia, growing in peat to grit with some water and some sun. The onion will grow to 6 centimetres in diameter, the plant reaches for 20 centimetres. The large flower are blue-violet with a yellow stripe and spots. It can be reproduced both by onions and seeds. I found mine in Roskilde 2003. |
