This member of the Malvaceae family was given this name by Carl Sigismund Kunth in 1821. It is found in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Ecuador, Paraguay and Peru, growing in a rich soil with some to lots of water and some to lots sun. The stem can grow to 180 centimetres in diameter and the tree can grow to 15 meters height. The flowers are white to cream coloured. The stem and heavy branches have slightly less spines than the close related Chorisia speciosa. |
